Night Vision is a photo-based project in which Zabriskie’s Waterfall (Saw Kill, Annandale-on-Hudson) was transformed into a nighttime studio, embracing the chance outcomes of working with flowing water in the dark. Light-sensitive photographic paper was submerged in the waterfall, and successive sections of the 14-meter roll were exposed with a flashlight, unrolling at one end and rolling up at the other.

In the gallery, the roll was suspended over a beam and arythmically rolled from the opposite side, producing a mechanical sound reminiscent of flowing water. The work was revealed gradually, one section at a time, slowly fading until it dissolved, reflecting the limited vision inherent in its exposure and development process.
